Default WHO'S MORE IMPORTANT THE PRODCUER OR THE MC??

I SAY 50/50... And if you agree, ask yourself why theres REAL RAPPERS/MC'S stuck in bidding wars for beats & why rappers aren't charging producers moreoften than not

shit, without each other they both would'nt be much of anythang. 50/50 is my vote today but if you asked me about 1987..I would soooo say the producers!! cuz they were the fuckers with the cheese then not the MC's!! it is what it is!!

^ I agree with both of you.

They are 2 sides of the same coin. A nice beat attracts you into the song, and the lyrics make the song stick in your mind.

Yet, I feel like people rely to much on the beat. Some people wont give the MC a chance if the beat isn't to their liking. Which is wrong in my eyes because that artist might have hardcore lyricism.

unfortunately quality beats come at more of a premium due to demand being greater than the supply. way way too many emcees...way too many great lyricists. there will never be enough beats.

For me I think it's 60/40 in favor of the MC... maybe even 70/30. An MC's voice/ flow etc. can bring just as much to the table as the beat does and combined with the fact that the MC brings the lyrics too gives them the edge IMO. For a rapper that's purely lyrical I agree with 50-50 but for someone with a great flow and voice like z-ro or brotha lynch hung usually I don't even remember the beat the first few times I hear the song. Like this song for example... the beat is pretty weird I wouldn't call it good or bad really but the way z-ro raps over it makes it one of my favorite songs of all time.

In the late1980's the MC was most likely also the producer, which is why you see them still producing and not rapping
also the owner of the song or the artist gets the say on which beat to use
MC>>>>>>>>Producer, just ask Nas cause Illmatic beats were bad

in today's mainstream world its the beat, real MC's can make it work regardless of a good or bad beat

well i would have to say 50/50 in most cases but their are times when i like a song even if da beat is bad as long as da lyrics are good then eventually da beat grows on me for example cannon if it wasnt for lil waynes awesome lyrics dat beat was so annoying i wouldnt have even liked da song
im more likely to give an artist a chance if he does a verse over another beat i like so its hard to decide and dey both need eachother
in conclusion artists get more fame, and producers get more money put it together and u got fame and fortune

depends on the Mc and the producer.. If you have a Mc like Big L or Kool G rap the Producer really don't need to do much cuz they will shine no matter what. Then some Mc's have made classic albums cuz of the beats like Group home's first Album, if it wasn't for Premo's Sick beats those dudes would be just a bunch of wack rappers.

a dope producer can make an average, or even wack rapper sound great

    examples:
    DJ Quik's production for chingy
    Rick Ross' entire career

When they was on back of a nickel like Monticello
When the underworld had to be smarter than Donatello
    No honor amongst fellows
It's harder than sitting with a blind man and trying to describe yellow
